On July 10, an asymptomatic case of COVID-19 was reported in Ziyang County of Ankang City, Shaanxi Province. According to the epidemiological survey by Shaanxi Provincial CDC, a male surnamed Chen once worked in Qingxi Town of Dongguan City from June 1 to July 1, 2021 before returning to Shaanxi on July 2.

In-depth epidemiological investigations have been carried out in Dongguan City overnight, with strict management, sampling and testing on the relevant personnel and places, and terminal disinfection measures undertaken.

Through investigation, there was no evidence yet to prove that Chen had been to the medium-risk area or had contact with people who were positive for COVID-19 and their close contacts during his stay in Dongguan. Before Chen left Guangdong on July 1, his COVID-19 nucleic acid test was also negative.

As of 10 am on July 11, a total of 7,043 samples of personnel and environment in the city have been collected, including 28 samples (via nasopharyngeal, pharynx and anal swabs, and blood) of 4 workers who worked or lived together with Chen during his stay in Dongguan, the results of COVID-19 nucleic acid and IgM/IgG antibodies in serum are all negative. 512 samples of people who had contact with Chen and 6,226 samples of people in the community where Chen worked and lived all tested negative in the COVID-19 nucleic acid test. 277 environmental specimens from key places such as Chen's residence, workplace, and residences of related personnel also tested negative for COVID-19.

Dongguan has no new locally-transmitted positive COVID-19 cases for 20 consecutive days. However, we shall not relax our vigilance in epidemic prevention and control. The general public is suggested not to go to places with dense crowds and poor air circulation. Citizens should continue to take proper personal protection measures, wear masks scientifically, wash hands frequently, ensure regular ventilation, avoid gatherings and use serving chopsticks. They should also avoid unnecessary travel to medium-/high-risk areas and places where cases are reported. Take the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible, and at the same time, do not trust, spread or make rumours.
